Best way to control nuisibles

Whislt holidaying recently we had an awful problems with pest, or ‘nuisibles‘ as the locals call them.

Every now and then you would hear a cry of ‘nuisibles’ and what we guessed meant get rid of them quickly as you saw locals jumping around trying not to let any of them get on their clothes.

After a while we got used to the various pest such as cockroaches and ants and flies, but we have to admit they were annoying.

The best way to control a lots of the pests we found was to burn a citronella candle in our room, as the smell it produces warns a lot of the pests off – not all of them mind.

Raticida – a Spanish word that can cause concern

I recently spent a week on holiday in Spain, but when I arrived at the villa a van with ‘Raticida’ written on the side was parked outside. A man came outside and walked towards it, so I asked who he was, but he didn’t speak any English and my command of the Spanish language isn’t exactly comprehensive.

Anyway, the landlord of the property then arrived, and he managed to throw some light on the mystery. The word means ‘Mouse Control’, and the fellow had been laying a few bait boxes around the place. He said it was just a precaution, and that the chap turns up every couple of months or so to put new bait down.

I can only conclude, having spent a blissful week in that wonderfully-appointed place, that he must be doing a very good job, because I never saw or heard any mice during my stay.
